Program Overview:

The Santa Monica Surf Youth Leadership Program is designed to bridge the transition from Santa Monica Surf player to counselor/coach. This program equips students with important leadership skills and responsibilities while also offering the opportunity to earn community service hours for high school.

  2. Submit a brief letter explaining your interest in the program. Please email your letter to Racca at smsurf.programs@gmail.com.

Registration Process: Once selected, CITs must pay a fee of $?. There is a limit on the number of weeks a CIT can serve.

Mandatory Training: All CITs must attend a mandatory training session held before the start of a camp.

Responsibilities:

Supporting the Counselor:

  • Setting up games and activities
  • Organizing and managing equipment
  • Ensuring all campers are accounted for
  • Engaging with campers and participating in all activities

Engaging with Campers:

  • Actively participating in games and activities planned by the counselor
  • Encouraging and fostering a fun, inclusive environment for all campers

CITs act as extensions of the counselors. While they are not in charge of the group, they play a crucial role in supporting the counselor to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience for all campers. As role models, CITs must continuously set a positive example.

Optional Leadership Meetings: We are excited to offer an additional level to the Youth Leadership Program for players registered in the program. Participants will have the opportunity to attend monthly leadership meetings held at a set location. These sessions will focus on all things leadership, discussing what it takes to be a leader both on and off the field. This optional component aims to smooth the transition from player to CIT, ensuring that participants are well-prepared for their responsibilities.

During these meetings, we will:

  • Explore key leadership concepts and skills
  • Share experiences and strategies for effective leadership
  • Discuss the expectations of being a CIT and how to meet them successfully

These sessions are optional but highly encouraged for those who aspire to become CITs. By connecting classroom discussions with field expectations, we aim to create a seamless transition for future leaders.

If you are interested in becoming a CIT, please sign up for  as a camper and select “CIT” in the grade section.
