History

Over 40 years of excellence

Established in 1975, Santa Monica Surf is the oldest, largest and most successful competitive youth soccer club on LA’s Westside. Our history places us within a unique group of clubs as being one of the earliest in all of Southern California to pioneer the huge and growing sport of soccer.

Robert Marchis saw the need to provide a truly competitive soccer experience for serious athletes who wanted a higher level of training and competition just like those in Europe and South America. In 1975, he created the club and named it Real Santa Monica Soccer Club, after the the most famous soccer club in the world – Real Madrid.

After several name changes and club reorganizations, in 2019 Santa Monica United and Surf Cup Sports partnered to create greater soccer opportunities and experiences for players, coaches and families. Now named Santa Monica Surf, the club remains devoted to solidifying a strong player pathway in the west Los Angeles area and joining Surf provided them a clear opportunity to fulfill that mission.

Team Accomplishments

Over the years, thousands of local youths have participated in our program. Hundreds and hundreds of high school players in all of the local campuses and college players for programs from all over the country have trained and played with our club (not to mention a couple of turned-Pro athletes).
